The graduate level English Studies focus on advanced development of English language competency. Students broaden their knowledge in areas such as: linguistics, methodology of teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL), international business communication as well as the cultural and historical background of the English speaking countries. Graduates are well prepared for the contemporary employment market thanks to their language proficiency, technical skills and multicultural awareness.

 

Candidate

The graduate level English Studies Program is a good choice for B.A. degree holders in any discipline and for professionals who wish to further develop their English language competencies. Prospective students should be able to speak English at the CEFR C1 or higher level and must provide appropriate English proficiency certificates.

Graduates of English Studies build successful careers in various industries, including education, translation, international business, media, marketing and advertising, film and TV production, government administration, and NGOs.

 

Specializations

 

Teaching English As A Foreign Language - Teaching Track 

Available only in the part-time mode.

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) specialization allows students to acquire or develop teaching qualifications for all levels of education. Special emphasis in our curriculum is given to subjects preparing teachers to work with modern technology. Considering the increase in the demand for teaching English to young learners, we also offer courses to develop skills in this particular area.

In accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, graduates of TEFL specialization are licensed to teach at primary, middle and secondary schools, provided they completed teaching internships, in the course of their studies.

 

 

Communication In Business Program - Business Path

Communication in Business Program includes subjects such as: general management theory, marketing, communication, interpersonal relations, and influencing skills. Additionally, during workshops, students gain practical competencies in the following areas: presentation skills, public speaking, team work, and business writing. Some of the classes are conducted by business experts and managers actively working in various firms and corporations. During the course of studies, students have an opportunity to visit several companies and organizations, meet business professionals and previous graduates of the Communication in Business specialization.

Thanks to their English proficiency, communications skills, business acumen and multicultural awareness, graduates of the Communication in Business Specialization build successful careers in areas, such as: public relations, marketing, corporate management, and business administration in Poland and abroad.

 

Information And Communication Technology In Elt – Teaching Track

Available only in the full-time mode.

The program teaches not only the fundamental competencies indispensable in modern teaching, but it also offers additional courses on the use of the latest information technology tools and teaching materials and their application in the classroom. Additionally, the program prepares future teachers to align programs of teaching with various age groups of learners and offers an opportunity to gain certification in teaching English as a foreign language.

 

Translation Studies - Translation Path

Available only in the part-time mode.

Translation Specialization focuses on translation theory and practice. All courses are taught by experienced translators and translation scholars. The program offers workshops in business, media, literary and specialized translation, from Polish to English and vice versa. Students practice text analysis and writing in different styles. Additionally, they learn how to use Computer Assisted Translation programs (CAT tools).

Translation Specialization aims to:

Instill professional approach to translated texts, such as the use of translation strategies and techniques, appropriate to the given context. Teach students about the requirements of general and specialized translation and localization. Demonstrate good working practices for professional translators, including: time management, research techniques, evaluation of information sources, compilation of translator’s library and tool set, and business basics for freelance translators.

SWPS University offers 14 undergraduate and graduate programs in English. Students may choose programs in English Studies, English studies with additional language (Chinese, Japanese, Russian, German and Spanish), Psychology, Management and Design Studies at the School of Form in Warsaw. 

SWPS University has signed close to 90 exchange agreements with numerous higher education institutions, including many EU countries, Great Britain, Island, Israel, Norway, and Turkey. Students of SWPS University have an opportunity to complete part of their studies at one of our partner universities in the United States, such as Detroit Mercy University, Sungshin Univeristy and Konkuk University in Seoul in South Korea and with the Capital Normal University in Beijing, Chongqing University of Technology, and Tianjin Normal University in China.
