English Preparatory Course - 1 semester in Poland, Warsaw

The course is designed to provide students with a balanced and well-rounded set of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills necessary in their academic and professional careers. Upon completion, students achieve linguistic independence that allows them to function in international settings such as work, business, travel, academia, networking. They will be able to find, provide and critically analyse information, and to use and create contents to the best advantage. They will also be ready for ongoing development of their language skills for more specific needs and areas.

Topics and vocabulary: relationships, habits, entertainment, travel and tourism, city life and urban change, the family and society, the world of work and education, turning points in history, accommodation and housing, health and medicine, food and eating habits, successful and failing businesses, customs and behaviour, the law and courts, science and technology, art and creativity, natural resources, climate change and environmental issues, global problems and opportunities

Grammar and language issues: tenses, question forms, comparatives, countable and uncountable nouns, verbs patterns and reporting, Reported speech, defining and non-defining relative clauses, prepositions, Conditionals, adverbs and adverbial clauses, passive constructions, linking words and phrases 

Language functions: expressing opinions, describing experiences, asking for and offering help, socializing, participating in discussions, delivering a presentation, making suggestions, giving advice, negotiating, complaining, summarising information
