Medicinal chemistry is a scientific discipline at the intersection of chemistry and computational science, involved with designing, synthesizing and developing new pharmaceutical drugs. At the beginning, medicinal chemistry was involved in the screening of natural sources like plants or animals. Now the natural compounds serves as the leading compounds in the synthesis and development of new chemical entities suitable for therapeutic use. Medicinal chemistry includes the synthesis and analysis of existing drugs, evaluation of their biological properties, analysis of structure-activity relationships as well as design and synthesis of new drugs or search for their natural sources. It is a highly interdisciplinary discipline widely using advanced, synthetic, spectroscopic and computational methods. Thus, medicinal chemists cooperate with theoretical chemists, synthetic chemists, medical doctors, microbiologists, pharmacologists. The graduation document certifies the degree in chemistry with the notification of a deepened specialization in Medicinal Chemistry. Study for applicants without engineering degree study lasts 2 years, otherwise 1.5 years only.

Fine chemicals (FCs) are formulations containing one or more complex chemical substances as active ingredients – serving both an immense range of a purity specification, and ability to deliver a particular effect. FCs are thus identified according to their custom-designed properties and performance formulations. FCs’ manufacturers produce a wide range of chemical substances, which are typically of a high added-value and produced in relatively low amounts, mainly by batch processes in multipurpose plants. Specifically there are following FCs product categories:

pharmaceutical products (chemical and biological processes),

plant health products and biocides,

specialty polymers,

specialized surfactants and dispersed systems,

dyes and pigments,

polymer additives,

neutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals and food additives,

nanomaterials,

catalysts for green chemistry and their applications in technological processes

organic intermediates and custom-designed products.

Urban Mining (UM) is recovering valuable raw materials from used products (e.g. vehicles, electronics equipment), installations, buildings, and various manufactured infrastructures. It is a method of recycling secondary raw materials which sees valuable deposits wherever people have left a trace of their activity. Mines for urban mining are all human creations that are no longer used. Although urban mining appeared in scientific terminology as early as the 1980s, the phenomenon it describes is today one of the more rapidly spreading global trends. Urban mining constitutes an interdisciplinary research area, covering different methods to extract valuable substances from anthropogenic wastes.

The graduate has knowledge and skills in the field of engineering and technical sciences, i.e., to:

identify and access raw material potentials from the anthropogenic waste stream from the current streams as well as from old deposits.

access the basic parameters of the use of these potentials in terms of quality and quantity, taking into account zero-waste and lo-emission strategy

plan detailed processing tests, taking into account physical, chemical, and biological process necessary in terms of social demand for these raw materials, using good practices of the circular economy

The specialty Applied Geoscience is an offer for English speaking students not only from the European Union but also from all over the word. The program lasts 2 years (4 semesters). To obtain a master's degree, students must write and defend a master thesis.

The program of these studies comprises most important aspects of geosciences proposed in four semesters. The knowledge of mineralogy and petrology, stratigraphy, structural and economic geology, applied hydrogeology, environmental geochemistry and environmental protection are proposed as a consistent academic course, which difficulty increases from the first to the third semester. As a consequence, the second and third semester courses continue and build up on the knowledge obtained during previous semesters. All the courses are related to the wide aspects of the applied geoscience knowledge and include problems of environmental protection and as such teach issues strongly linked to present-day problems of the world. During the final fourth semester students work almost exclusively on their MSc dissertation.

The whole 4-semester program offers students a choice of 21 elective courses grouped in 4 modules. Additionally, on the second semester students can select two from three facultative field courses. Students can enroll in the courses if they hold a bachelor's degree, however some nature/science basic knowledge is welcomed. Altogether, the aim of the proposed courses is to teach a modern-day geologist familiar with social and economic issues of the developing world. The aim is achieved through diverse program of the specialty Applied Geoscience and the wide range of its components, which give a student a comprehensive applied education. The acquired geological knowledge allows students to find an employment primarily in a variety of geological surveys, industries and services related to construction, environment, exploration and protection of its resources as well as the search for natural resources.

Artificial intelligence, machine learning and all processes based on human-computer communication – did you know that their development would not have been possible if not for the research led by cognitive scientists? Cognitive science is a multidisciplinary field of study that investigates the cognitive processes of the human mind by integrating knowledge and methods of psychology, linguistics, sociology, or philosophy, but also computer science and mathematical statistics. This is because scientific knowledge of the processes of the human mind – such as inference, information processing, perception, or memory – is essential for the design and use of advanced systems that shape 21st century communication, as well as the development of effective marketing and social communication.

During the course of your bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science at the Vizja University in Warsaw, you will explore a range of issues related to cognitive development, both in terms of psychology and linguistics, as well as computer science. You will also gain hands-on experience on how to use data and information processing tools and systems. What is especially important, during your studies you will gain practical research skills and learn how to use them in your future career.

Note: The program of Cognitive Science is conducted exclusively in English, so we recommend them to candidates with knowledge of this language at least at the B2 level.
