Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in Poland, Warsaw

Philosophy Studies in English (official name: “Warsaw International Studies in Philosophy”) in the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Warsaw is full-time six-semester programme taught entirely in English that provides comprehensive and systematic account of Western philosophy — from the wisdom of the first sages of Ancient Greece to the discussions led by philosophers around the globe today.

As a preparation for getting acquainted with the contemporary philosophical issues the programme includes several obligatory courses in the history of philosophy: Ancient Philosophy, Medieval Philosophy, Modern Philosophy, Analytic Philosophy, and Continental Philosophy.

The second main part of the programme are 39 the courses devoted to problems belonging to the main branches of today’s philosophy, i.e. Logic, Advanced Formal Logic, Epistemology, Ontology, Ethics, Philosophy of Language, Philosophical Problems in Science, and Philosophy of Value & Anthropology.

Each student complements his own path of studying philosophy by choosing several courses from a wide range of optional subjects which includes Logic & Metaphysics Module, Moral Philosophy Module, seminars and monographic lectures.

Updated and improved programme, introduced in 2014/15 academic year, includes also several additional courses like Academic Philosophical Writing or Recent Polish Philosophy.Our programme will provide you with solid philosophical and academic background that will enable you to continue your studies at the Master’s and PhD level at the universities around the world!

The University of Warsaw is the largest university in Poland and the best research centre in the country. Its academic community comprises 7 200 employees, more than 44 400 undergraduate and graduate students, 3 200 doctoral students and 3 000 postgraduate students. The overall number of students and doctoral students at the university includes 4 400 international students, most of whom come from Ukraine, Belarus, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, China and Turkey. Besides 21 faculties, UW has also 30 academic and research centres. A wide range of studies in humanities, social, exact as well as natural sciences, including 25 English-language programmes, is provided by UW. Students can choose from 2 000 foreign-language courses within the Polish language programmes. The high quality of teaching is reflected in the results of various rankings. According to these, the University of Warsaw is among the top 3% of universities in the world. The authors of Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking, Eduniversal Best Masters and MBA, or US News and World Report select the 200 best programmes from thousands of programmes in the world. Over 20 programmes offered by UW are listed there.

The university life concentrates in three campuses: Central, Ochota and Służewiec located in different districts of Warsaw.
