IT and Computer Science

<p style="text-align:justify;">For the first three semesters, the programme covers the basics of mathematics, which allows for the effective learning of computer science and programming techniques in the next semesters. In this period, students receive basic information on calculus, linear algebra and geometry, discrete mathematics, logic, numerical methods, and principles of electronics. Additionally, during the first semesters, introduction courses to structural and objectoriented programming, algorithms and data structures as well as operating systems are offered. Until the fourth semester, classes are joint for all students. From the fifth semester students have the opportunity to choose elective courses which cover both theoretical and practical aspects of computer science. The last, seventh semester is mainly devoted to team project and thesis preparation.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;">Students are thoroughly educated in mathematics and aquire the theoretical basics of computer science, which enables them to widen his or her knowledge in the rapidly changing field of computer science. Graduates can use IT tools, programme in various programming languages, and operate IT equipment and software. They can work as part of a team to develop and implement IT projects, as well as verify component elements of computer information systems in compliance with a given specification. <p style="text-align:justify;">These full-time, three-year long studies enable students to gain the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. The programme encompasses software engineering, computer networks, programming, internet portals, computer graphics and artificial intelligence. The graduates of the first level Computer Science programme acquire knowledge and skills in the area of: programming, implementation and verification of computer software components, supervision of middle-sized computer systems and practical use of computer tools. <p style="text-align:justify;">Artificial Intelligence (AI) is oriented towards development and application of computational technologies that are inspired by the way people learn, reason, and make decisions. Since the field’s inception sixty years ago, it has experienced different trends with an unpredictable rate of progress. Nowadays, AI research and technologies pervade our lives, having greatly influenced domains such as transportation, entertainment, home and service robotics, education, security, and healthcare. This is mainly due to the deluge of data and a remarkable success of the data-driven paradigm, which has displaced the traditional paradigms of AI.</p> <p style="text-align:justify;"> </p> <p style="text-align:justify;">Poznan University of Technology offers a B.Sc. Programme in Artificial Intelligence, which is pioneering in Poland. The sevensemester programme has been launched as a response to a growing demand for highly specialized AI experts on both Polish and international markets. The curriculum aims at providing graduates with an in-depth knowledge of computer sciences and mathematics needed for practical AI applications as well as an up-to-date knowledge of the latest AI trends. The rapid development of cloud technology means that more and more applications previously installed on computers are now accessible from a web browser. <div> <p>General information</p> </div> <div> <div> <p>The first stage of education at The Faculty of Information Technology of PJAIT comprises undergraduate studies offered in three modes:</p> <ul> <li>full-time (day) - three and a half years (studies in Polish or in English)</li> <li>part-time (weekend) - four years (studies in Polish)</li> </ul> <p>Students attend lectures and classes. The latter are held in small 16-person groups, with a computer for every student, in case of a computer lab class. Diploma courses have dedicated labs with special software and hardware.</p> <p>The curriculum is composed of two types of subjects:    </p> <ul> <li>basic knowledge - obligatory for all students</li> <li>specialised knowledge - related to specialisations chosen by students.</li> </ul> <p>The first four semesters of the full-time programme  (and the first six of the part-time programme) are devoted to core instruction. At this stage, the student gains the fundamental knowledge required of a bachelor-level graduate in computer science. S/he is familiarised with issues such as basic database techniques, principles of software development and computer network development as well as applications of multimedia. Above all, the candidate learns to program in key languages such as Java or C++.  The curriculum also includes core mathematics, electronics, accounting, economics and law.</p> <p>During the subsequent specialised instruction, students choose a major (area of specialisation) in which to further expand their knowledge and skills. Specialised classes are customised for each major; examples include programming in languages such as Prolog, ML, Assembler, C# or SQL.
