MA Sociology Spec. Social Media Marketing

2-Year MA Programme  in Social Media Marketing

The development and expansion of the Internet and social media has given rise to new professions, which are in growing demand in the labour market. Most of them deal with social media marketing and require advanced knowledge in diverse disciplines such as market research, rules of the digital world, internet marketing and the influence of new media, especially Web 2.0, on social or even political behaviour. This programme was created with the objective of providing such knowledge and skills to the students.

During the programme students will learn how to use traditional and digital media for successful promotion of companies, brands, political parties, public institutions or non-governmental organizations. They will also practise building and cultivating target social media communities. They will gain a broad knowledge of new media, social communication and its effectiveness, methodology of social and market research, political campaigns and obviously of marketing. We attach particular attention to preparing our students to work in an international and cross-cultural environment: we are getting our students ready to efficiently function in a globalized world.

The graduates of the Social Media Marketing programme will be equally well prepared to work in transnational and domestic companies and corporations, in the public sector, politics and non-governmental organizations. They are good candidates for employment in advertising and public relations agencies and departments, social media agencies and social networking consultancies. No matter which option they choose for a career, they will have a solid basis to understand how to communicate using media and how to achieve business objectives, making efficient use of marketing in social media.

Supervision and tutorials are provided by Dr. Natalya Ryabinskaya. A sociologist and media studies scholar. Dr. Ryabinskaya holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology at the Polish Academy of Sciences. She also teaches at the Institute of Political Sciences at the Polish Academy of Sciences (Doctoral Programme). She is a member of the European Studies Unit at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Her research focuses on media systems in Central Eastern Europe and Newly Independent States, media and democracy, new media, political and international communication. Hobbies include sport, especially swimming and skiing; travelling and good literature.
